Kindle Amazon’s 6″ Wireless Reading Device review – Get it now
As I type this message there are 263 Kindle 2 reviews on Amazon’s web site. Why trouble with another? I am not one inclined to writing reviews but I do inspect them fastidiously before I’m making a significant purchase, here on Amazon.com and on other seller websites. So on the possibility that I’d say something that helps a potential buyer make up their mind, particularly someone that hasn’t owned the 1st Kindle, this is my little effort to give back to the method.
First of all, I loved Kindle 1 although I noted many inabilities due to the planning of the hardware. I’m happy to learn that every inability ( except one ) has been fixed beyond my expectancies. As I did I marveled at the new Kindle’s fresh, smooth design. It is a beauty!
The main issue I had with Kindle 1 was the navigation button design and placement. My original thought was that I needed to use my Kindle 1 without a cover but I quickly learned that doing so wasn’t practical. I was stuck reading using two hands and I didn’t like that in the slightest.
Kindle 2 solves all of these Problems. I am not going to trouble with a cover at all now. It is easy to navigate without any possibility of accidentally changing the page I’m on. I will be able to possibly purchase a Belkin sleeve to guard it when I take it out but that’s’s all. See the discussin thread and footage here : [...]
The Kindle 2’s reworked features are wonderful. The display is better and the 5-way button is a major improvement. I do a lot of highlighting and this design fix is massive. Looking up words is much easier and many times faster. Now it shows the total number of locations and the percent already read.
The fact that Kindle 2 has no SD card capability and the battery isn’t user-serviceable isn’t an issue with me. Even with a few hundred books in my library, it will be a long time before the two gig memory starts to be a restricting factor and when it does ( if it does ) I will just repository what I’ve already read. Amazon’s design team has made it easy to drag archived books back to the Kindle 2 without having to go to a {PC|P. Computer.
It would have been sweet to have that but it doesn’t take away from my delight. [Note added three / five / 09 : Bufo Calvo created an inovative strategy of catagorizing books on Kindle that works great so this item is no longer on my wish list. [...]
Page turns are noticeably faster and the page reloads are less intrusive to the reading experience. On / off buttons are repositioned to be simply accessible. The default page is better to navigate. There are more enhancements that many others have already noted so I am going to stop here without repeating everything that has been declared already. But the largest thing about Kindle ( both one and 2 ) is the Amazon store and how easy it is to browse and buy books from. I am so impressed with the way they have neatly brought the store along with the reading device via Whispernet to make the digital reading experience such a wonderful thing to enjoy.
