A breeze to setup, however after everything was up and working like a charm, it was only then that I realize the camera’s wireless signal had jacked up my home’s AT&T wireless network connection. My son went crazy when he discovered that his itouch connection is now 20x slower than before! We have to unplug all the cameras, do his iTouch thing and then reconnect the cameras when he’s done… (Every time he needs to use the wireless) sloppy!

I know very little about such cameras, but ordered it from the Amazon Vine program just to monitor my back yard. I live in a rural area, and I was interested in using the camera to monitor wildlife. I have an acre of land that backs up to mostly undeveloped mountains, so consequently there are many critters that roam through the area, including my yard. Among the nocturnal visitors I frequently get black bears (who like to take out my bird feeders, forcing me to take them in at dusk). I was curious as to just what might be visiting my property at night, so I installed this camera so as to monitor as much of my yard as possible. Installation was very easy, taking about 15 minutes. I have connected the receiver to both a television (an old analog set gathering dust) and, alternatively, to a VCR. There is an adaptor that allows one to plug the unit into a standard RCA plug, as well as an extension cord (which I did not need).
The good: easy to install, pretty good color rendition during daylight hours, and it has a fairly sensitive receiver. And, for my purpose (which does not include the need for face recognition, of course) this device is sufficiently clear to allow me to identify various animals wondering in the yard. However, as noted by others, it’s not all good; there seems to be interference that causes the top half of the image to exhibit squiggly lines (when connected to the tv; this does not occur when connected to the VCR). I intend to move the tv and receiver around some and see if that ends the problem, but am not optimistic. If it helps, I’ll amend this review.
My assessment would be that should you need such a camera for important surveillance or security applications, keep looking. However, if you want one for a reason such as mine (to check out wildlife or perhaps to monitor your driveway or such), then this item would be sufficient.

I bought two of these. Set up was a breeze. The receiver is very small, fits in anywhere, reception distance is good. However, like some of the other reviewers have pointed out, the image quality is very poor. It has two resolutions 640X 480 and 320X280 (or something like that). The higher resolution is poor enough that you never would like to use the lower resolution. When it comes to face recognition, it fails completely. Even in daylight you cannot recognize your own face if you stand more than 10 feet away, at night it is even worse. The frame rate at higher resolution is only 12FPS, so if a person walks too quickly forget about any face recognition even if the person is close to the camera. The angle of view is only 53 degrees so it won’t cover a wide area, and at night the IR lights only cover the center of the lens coverage area, so the angle of view is something like 30 degrees. It does interfere with other 2.4 GHZ devices, my cordless phone has a lot of noise now. So, if you want this camera just to know if somebody is there or not (but don’t care who it is), don’t care about resolution or frame rate, and don’t want the mess of running the wires, then this camera is for you. If you need a higher resolution, faster frame rate, low interference, better face recognition, wider angle look somewhere else. I am sending both of these back.

Bought a total of 4 of these along with the Lorex 4 camera DVR system. Total waste of money for any application that would require positive identification of people or objects more than 5 or 10 yards from the camera. Image quality is extremely poor, comparable to a highly compressed, low resolution 480×680 pixel jpeg image you’d find on a web page. The range of the wireless unit is fairly impressive, as is the color rendition for daylight images. The infared (black and white) mode that the camera automatically switches to in low light is impressive in that you can see in a pitch-black room with no light. But when you can’t really identify the person in that room (or in broad daylight) because of the poor resolution, what good is it?
I can see no use for this camera or the other components in the Lorex system other than something like taking a quick peek into your back yard at night before you step out to feed the dog — you’d know if an intruder was lying in wait for you to open the door, but there is no way you’d be able to see his/her face well enough to identify them.

I would give it at least 4 stars. Originally ordered 4 cameras from Amazon. One failed to toggle between the low and high resolution modes. Thanks to Amazon’s commendable replacement policy, no questions asked: the new item is on the way. Otherwise, the cameras work fine. Of course, you shouldn’t expect HD image quality on your large wide screen TV. Also, the camera is designed to work in a closeup range (fixed focus). If you intend on having it monitor distant objects, please know that the produced image is quite blurry. My wife wanted to watch birds landing on her bird feeder 30-40 ft away, and she couldn’t tell the birds from squirrels. In my case, I am using these cameras at the porch to show me who is standing right at the door, etc. Due to the intensity of wireless data transfer, the image transition is limited to 12 frames per second in the high resolution mode (and believe me, you will want to use that mode most of the time). So the video looks a bit slow. Also, please be aware that this is not a panoramic camera. The viewing angle is fairly meager (see specifications). The camera is definitely meant for a specific purpose and you will need to find out how it would apply to your concrete situation. I see this camera as to be primarily used in outdoor settings because the indoor lighting is rarely sufficient to have the camera operate in color mode. However, with this being said, the infrared black and white mode does not seem to be annoying too much (I have one of these cameras inside to watch our pets while we are gone). The wireless reception is great. If you have several cameras, be sure to pair them while they are still near to their receivers (that’s prior to mounting them). From my observation, this ensures the pairing quality. With all the four cameras set up to operate at the same time, I haven’t noticed any interference with the house appliances or the wireless router. From other reviews, it seems that this can be an issue. You can try to change the subfrequency your router operates on to avoid the interference. If you have an ATT’s 2WIRE router, just type HOMEPORTAL in the address bar on your Internet Explorer and scroll through the menus to locate the frequency setup. If you are not electronically savvy, have someone else who knows what he is doing help you with this. You DO NOT want to mess up your router box!!!
While approaching this review in a critical manner, I should say that I am impressed with the camera (especially its wireless capabilities) and would recommend it to someone else. The setup was a breeze and I had it up and running in no time. Good product!
