This camera was disappointing. The picture quality was poor, it skipped and sound did not match up with the video at times. I returned it after taping my daughters graduation, the results were unacceptable.

I own 4 computers 2 with dual core processors, the dual cpu means little with the HD files this camera produces, You need tons of RAM. The only time I can watch the files is when I put them in my 8GB DDR3 dual 3.0 core system. I hated the camera until I realized You need HORSEPOWER! if you have a system with fewer than 8GB of ram, beware!

I had my eyes on this camera way before it came out. it looked very promising. bought it as soon as it became available on Amazon. My exitement dropped a notch as I assembled the camera’s strap. When I wrapped the tiny string (strap) around my hand it felt uncomfortable, loose, like if you don’t have a firm grip of it, and after about five minutes my hand started hurting because of the tiny string putting pressure. So I immediately replaced it with an old strap I hadthat was thicker and padded. The picture quality is not the greatest indoors, as well as the HD rendition indoors. I tried many different settings and just could not get the quality of picture the camera promised. Of course, take it outdoors and it performs better, but still not the quality of a 10 megapixel resolution. HD video outdoors is great under well lit conditions and some dim, but the moment you zoom-in in rather dim conditions the quality goes downhill. My greatest dissapointment was the first time I took the camera out to videotape my boys playing, the image thrugh the viewfinder flip upsidedown, out of nowhere. That was the big blow and now I have returned the camera as defective and am shopping for a different brand. I suggest you try it before you buy it and stick to a video camera exclusively for video.

I bought this because of the dual function that can serve digital camera and camcorder functions. This is convenient. Pic quality together with video is great. This camcorder claims to be capable of taking pic during video recording, it’s true but the pic quality would not be as good as when pic only is taken. Overall this is a worthy camcorder in my opinion. Size is not too big like normal camcorder. One thing to suggest is to include remote control as the FH-1 model only has from Sanyo.

I just got the camera last night. I’ve only done a few tests on it. I’ll play with it more this weekend. It appears this camera supports iFrame. This is an apple format that equates to 960×540 at 30p. The reduced dimension format actually takes up more space than the max 1080i setting. I think its a different flavor of mp4 that has less compression than the other HD formats supported on the camera. The idea is that if you bring this format into iMovie on the Mac, the files work natively with the app. On the video settings, this is the star symbol. I’ll do a test later tonight, but I’m pretty sure this is so.
Without shooting, I can tell you that this camera is tiny. Like William, I also was looking for a camera that would not be a burden to carry around. I have been shooting on a Flip and an iPhone. The quality isn’t great, but the iPhone is always in my pocket. I won’t always have the Sanyo with me, but when I am going to an event, or know I want to shoot something specific, this camera’s size is near perfect. It does not come with a memory card (The onboard memory is 50MB- kind of a buffer i guess). But you would end up throwing away the small capacity card they give you, so this is not an issue. It comes with USB, but no HDMI, but this is not really a big deal either.
All told, without extensively testing the camera/video quality, this camera is pretty amazing. If you are spending over $150 for a flip with no features or controls, its a no brainer to get this tiny camera for $350.
More on the quality at a later date…
