Well, this might be useful for the newer line of Sony’s entry level DSLRs because they have a weaker flash, or for the higher end models like the A900 or A850 that have no built in flash. However, if you own an older model camera (A100, A200, A300, A350 or A700) the guide number on this flash will not do you any good. While it looks nice and is very compact, it doesn’t really give the functionality and range worth $120. Besides, in the end what matters are the pictures, not how pretty your camera flash is. And this camera flash does not produce good results.

I bought this for my Sony Alpha. I like the design of this unit. This is a slim and lightweight, but still a very powerful flash. It is compact and it lays flat on top of the camera. Minimal weight is added when using the unit. It comes with its own carrying case and fits into any small SLR bag.
The Bounce Flash Mode, makes a huge difference between photos taken with the on-camera flash and this one. The on-camera flash is certainly bright enough, but leaves distracting shadows in your photos.
It is priced a little high.

This little gadget is a nice upgrade to the flash on an A700. Its increased range and simple adjustments for bounce and telephoto are very welcome. Its increased flash range is nice as it allows indoor photos that are nicely filled in. It increases the height of the camera by an inch when it is closed down. So it may not fit in your camera bag mounted on the camera. However, its small size allows it to fit in pockets without much notice.

It came quickly when ordered. Goes well with my camera. It’s not bulky and it takes up less room in the camera bag. Not sure of the quality of the photos because I haven’t had to use it yet. I recommend this shipper because it came quickly and undamaged.

It’s compact, it says Sony, it takes AAA batteries (not much power) – but it only has a guide number of 20. My built in flash has a guide number of 12, so this isn’t much more flash.
For the money you can get much higher guide numbers, with more higher capacity batteries.
